On behalf of the German Association for Australian Studies (GASt) we would like to express our deepest concerns in regards to the disastrous bushfire events currently unfolding in Queensland and New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and parts of Western Australia. The environmental, cultural and social impact of the current fires cannot be overestimated. In the short- and long-term, the Australian continent will be seriously affected in ways that are yet unforeseeable.
